Mental Health Court
The Madison County Mental Health Court is a court-supervised, comprehensive treatment program, which focuses on three interdependent components to help participants manage life and mental health:
The mission of the Madison County Mental Health Court is to serve the judiciary, the community, and a mental health client base. It strives to increase public safety, reduce recidivism, and expand remedial mental health services to those who suffer from mental illness, in an effort to improve their quality of life. The length of the program ranges from 12 months to 36 months.
The Madison County Reentry Court program is a court-supervised comprehensive risk reduction program for offenders returning to Madison County from the Department of Corrections. Admitted participants receive an individualized formal risk reduction plan and appear in Reentry Court on a schedule as outlined in each participant’s risk reduction plan. Successful completion of the formal risk reduction plan and successfully meeting program benchmarks established by the Reentry Court Judge allow participants to graduate from Reentry Court. Participants who successfully complete Reentry Court will receive a 25% reduction in the remaining period of supervision or a modification of the original sentence. The length of the program ranges from twelve months to 24 months.
Veterans Court is a treatment court designed to provide veterans who have been charged with a crime and who are suffering from substance abuse or mental illness an opportunity to receive treatment and avoid extended incarceration. Veterans Treatment Court is a collaborative effort between the Prosecutor’s Office, Madison County Veterans Service Officer, Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and law enforcement agencies.
Eligible participants are subject to random drug screening and must appear in Veterans Court as ordered by the Veterans Court Judge. Veterans must abide by the terms of the treatment plan in order to successfully complete the Veterans Court program. The Veterans Court Judge oversees the participants’ progress and has full jurisdiction of the entire process. The average length of the program is approximately 12 months to 36 months.
