Planning Commission


The Madison County Planning Commission is an advisory plan commission organized and empowered by Indiana State Law. Established in 1945, the Madison County Planning Commission’s mission is to preserve and improve the health and safety of Madison County citizens. The Planning Commission’s jurisdiction includes all unincorporated areas of Madison County and serves as the Building Commission for the Town of Orestes.


The Planning Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 am in the Commissioner’s Court, Room 110, in the Madison County Government Center at 16 East 9th Street, Anderson, IN 46016.

Board of Zoning Appeals

The Madison County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is organized and empowered by Indiana State Law to hear and make decisions regarding variance and special use applications. The Board provides an option for individualized consideration on cases that conflict with zoning policy.


The Board of Zoning Appeals meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 9:00 am in the Commissioner’s Court, Room 110, in the Madison County Government Center at 16 East 9th Street, Anderson, IN 46016.

Permit Portal is Now Available

The Madison County Planning Department oversees the County’s zoning and land use policies. The Planning Department is also responsible for issuing building permits and certificates of occupancy.


The Planning Department is located on the second floor of the Madison County Government Center at 16 East 9th Street, Anderson, IN 46016.
