Highway Department


Madison County Highway Department maintains the county roads, and small structures, including paving and snow removal, within Madison County. This does not include state highways or roads that have been incorporated or are part of a city or town. Madison County maintains approximately 870 miles of roadway within Madison County. The Highway Department mainains 220 bridges within the County.

Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation that supports State and local governments in the design, construction, and maintenance of the Nation’s highway system (Federal Aid Highway Program) and various federally and tribal owned lands (Federal Lands Highway Program). Through financial and technical assistance to State and local governments, the Federal Highway Administration is responsible for ensuring that America’s roads and highways continue to be among the safest and most technologically sound in the world.   

INDIANA LOCAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LTAP)

Indiana LTAP provides technical assistance and training to the highway, road, and street departments of all 92 counties, 117 cities, and over 450 towns in Indiana. Technical assistance is provided through training programs, workshops, and seminars conducted at Purdue University and throughout the state, as well as through technical publications, newsletters, and loaning of roadway equipment.   

Indiana Department of Transportation, Greenfield District

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT_), Greenfield District is responsible for all state roads and interstates located in Madison County. They also oversee the associated bridges, traffic signals, and road signs.   

Madison County Council of Governments

The Madison County Council of Governments (MCCOG) is the primary regional transportation planning agency for Madison County. MCCOG identifies existing conditions, prioritizes projects, and awards funds to communities within its service area for eligible transportation-related improvement projects.
