MADISON COUNTY ELECTION BOARD

The Madison County Election Board is a three-member bipartisan board comprised of the county clerk and two appointed members, one each from the two major political parties (Democratic and Republican). The circuit court clerk is automatically a member and serves as secretary of the county election board. The county chairperson of each major political party nominates an individual on the county election board. The term of an appointed county election board member is not specified by state law. The primary job of the county election board is to administer the election process within the county. The county election board supervises and oversees the conduct of the General Election year primaries, the General Election in November, city primaries and elections, and in some cases, town primaries and elections. The county election board may also be called upon to conduct a special election in accordance with state law.
